Court marriage, also known as civil marriage, is a legal union between two individuals that is recognized by the government and not a religious institution. In Qatar, court marriages are not legally recognized and are considered illegal for all citizens and foreigners alike. All marriages in Qatar must be conducted according to the laws of the Islamic sharia and under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Justice.
